How does this game differ from the rest of the Nova Suecia games?
19XX is another "realistic" game similar to Globalization
in the sense that it is designed through the
principle theme first, mechanics later. Various economic theories that help understanding
deregulated rail networks have been incorporated and gamified to allow the players to relive this
paradigm shift. Thus, the game decisions are not about finding optimal actions to
achieve objectives but rather business-like decisions about finding actions that
provide the best return on investments given the continuously changing economic conditions.
How does this game compare to 18xx games?
Similar to 18xx games, there are stock rounds and operating rounds and the objective is to
accumulate personal wealth through the control of the companies on the game board. Among the differences are
the split ownership between tracks and lines, the preset lines at the start and the mergers which will eventually
replace a public monopoly with a private one.
