Home Game Rules Theme Strategy FAQ

It is the year of 480 BC and Athens has been sacked by the Persians. The evacuated people return to a city in ruins. But out of the ashes, a new city will arise, a city built on democracy and destined to become one of the most famous cities in history. The Golden Age of Athens is about to begin.

However, the people has hardly gathered again before the unity starts cracking. Tribes stand against tribes and nobles against commons as everybody seeks to influence the people, to shape the new city, and to take place among the eternal men of Athens.

Demokratia was primarily being designed for the Gamehole Board Game Challenge, a contest at The Game Crafter for games using take that mechanisms.

Demokratia takes the players back to the classical Athens. As a leader of one of the tribes comprising the Athenian people, it is your duty to mobilize the people and rebuild the city. The more you build, the greater the power of the people. You may also engage famous rhetors or utilize monuments to further your cause. However you must maintain your influence over the people or other leaders will reap the benefits of your labour.

Beware, if you get too popular you may get ostracized and exiled from Athens.
