Technological progress and international cooperation has connected the world and made it smaller. Companies that could previously rely on local markets for their supply and demand must now look overseas to survive. But to be competitive, companies must carefully manage finance, investments, research & development, and operations. Otherwise the competitors from overseas will come and take over their local markets.

The players are investors who compete to buy shares in the companies who offer the best return. Those companies in turn compete to buy cheap and sell expensive on an increasingly global market. But globalization also means interconnection as one company's supply is another company's demand and all resource transactions take place on markets with rapid price fluctuations. Timing is crucial to be successful, as is a good balance between company actions so that the company earns money today and stays competitive in the future.

Globalization is based on a childhood idea to "fix Monopoly" by focusing on more intersting transactions between the players than simply paying rent. The design objective has been to simulate the globalization trend, whereby companies will start local and then expand globally, first in pursuit of cheaper resources and labor and then, as the overseas markets develop, in pursuit of increased sales.

My name is Nicholas Hjelmberg and I am a hobby gamer since childhood. Starting with classic games like chess and RISK, I moved on to explore "American" games like Diplomacy and Civilization and then "Euro games" like Settlers and Tigris & Euphrates. Combining my game experience with my history interest and IT and quality profession, I have entered the exciting world of board game design and production.
