Annotated Games: 4 Players

This game was played during the game testing of the Gods variant and the new movement rules of Apokalypsis, including the temple tiles. The general strategy is to observe each others' moves, deduce which cards that are kept and which cards that are returned, and move to safe areas and away from unsafe areas.

The meeples are denoted with colored circles; filled in the hexes they stand in and hollow in the regions they moved from. A "round" ends when an apocalypse takes place and hexes get flipped. "Hand" refers to the omen kept and "Pile" to the omen returned to the pile.

Player 1 starts with a difficult position, as the first blessed yellow people occupy both South and Wave areas, while the second blessed red people share many areas with the cursed green people. She decides to play Curse Green and Bless Yellow and keep the South Omen card. She then rallies 1 yellow and 1 orange meeple from a South to a West area and evacuates a green meeple to the now vacated area.

Player 2 is more comfortable with both her cursed peoples (Orange and Yellow) in an Earthquake area. She decides to play Curse Orange and Bless Red and keep the Earthquake Omen card. She also decides to pass all her actions, not giving away any information. This triggers an early apocalypse in the South Earthquake area. 1 yellow and 1 orange meeple perish, to player 1's dismay and player 2's happiness.

Player 3 draws Bless and Curse of the same color (Purple) and has no choice but to play Curse Blue and Bless Purple. She decides to keep Wrath and evacuates one temple (with a purple meeple) and rally to another temple (adding a blue meeple to it).

Player 4 chooses to play Curse Red and Bless Blue and discards Bless Orange, since 1 orange meeple has perished already. Her 2 East cards give her no choice about which Omen card to keep and she evacuates the Eastern temple and rallys further North to get as many blue meeples out of the Eastern area as possible.

Round 2b

Player 1 get an easy choice to keep the Omen card North (with many green meeples) and discard West (with many Yellow meeples). She evacuates the only yellow meeple in the North to the temple and then rally the yellow and red meeples to West.

Player 2 has 2 Volcanic Eruption and thus no choice. She makes the best of the situation by evacuating an orange and a purple meeple into the Volcanic area and then rally the purple out of there together with a yellow meeple, leaving the orange one.

East and North are struck by a Volcanic Eruption but due to the Wrath omen card, only the empty temple is struck.

Player 3 has many meeples in West and wisely discards the West omen. She uses rally to move a purple meeple away from a Storm tile and evacuation to move a blue meeple to a Storm tile.

Player 4 sees many red meeples in Wave tiles and keeps the Wave omen. She rallies to a temple to move a blue meeple away from a Wave area and evacuation to move a red meeple to a Wave area.

Player 1 keeps Storm, expecting South to appear again soon. With the yellow meeples safe from storms, she evacuates a tile with 1 green meeple and then rally that and another green meeple to the southern storm tile.

Player 2 expects an earthquake soon and keeps North. Keeping Wave is out of the question with so many red meeples in wave areas. She evacuates 1 red and 1 orange meeple from a wave area and then rally 2 orange meeples to a Northern earthquake tile.

Unfortunately for player 2, there was another Wave in the omen pile so her North omen triggers an apocalypse in all Northern coastal tiles, sweeping away 1 meeple each for purple, blue, red and green. This means that all players have seen 1 blessed meeple and 1 cursed meeple perish and the score is equal.

Player 3 has a bad combination of omen cards with plenty of purple blessed meeple in earthquake areas and no blue cursed meeples in southern areas. She decides to keep South, rally a purple and red meeple away from South and evacuate a blue and an orange meeple to South.

Player 4 has a better combination. With blue meeples in the East, she keeps the South card and evacuates a blue meeple and (since she knows no player blesses Orange) an orange meeple from the South. In fact, she is so confident that she passes the second action but with two South in the omen pile, the apocalypse wait another round.

Player 1 has 2 yellow meeples in West and thus keeps Volcanic Eruption instead. She evacuates yellow, purple and red meeples from the area to a temple and builds a bridge in the South in case she wants to move the green meeples there in the future.

The volcano does indeed erupt but only in the South, harming no meeple.

Seeing the Volcano again, player 2 decides to bluff and keep it, hoping that the other players will think it's safe for now. She also evacuates orange meeples closer to it and builds a bridge to be able to move her red meeples in the South if necessary

Player 3 discards East, where she has many purple meeples, and keeps Wrath. She evacuates one temple where she has a purple meeple and rally to another one to get blue meeple there.

Player 4 sees an opportunity to evacuate all blue meeples from West and rally a 3rd red meeple there.

She turns out to be correct but it is a Volcano that strikes the West and there are no meeples at all there. Note that the Wrath omen has no effect, since there are no temples in the stricken area.

Player 1 keeps the Wave omen and makes sure to evacuate and rally to get green meeples to Wave areas in the West and South.

Player 2 gets 2 Storm omens and rallies purple, yellow and red meeples from a Storm area to make room to evacuate a blue and an orange meeple there.

Player 3 keeps North and uses Evacuate and Rally to get 2 blue meeples from the Eastern temple to the North. Unfortunately nothing happens in the North, since Storm and Wave have already flipped tiles there.

Player 4 anxiously evacuates the blue meeples closer to the Volcano and discards this omen card. Instead, she rallies red, purple and yellow meeples to the South and keeps this omen card.

This triggers both Storm and Wave in the South, discarding no less than 7 meeples(!). This puts player 4 in the lead with 8 points closely follow by player 1 with 7 points.

Player 1 keeps Earthquake and evacuates/rallies to have her 2 yellow meeples in the Western earthquake area moved to the shore together with purple and orange meeples.

Player 2 keeps North and uses first evacuate and then rally to have an orange and purple meeple moved all the way to that area.

This triggers an earthquake in the North, discarding another 7 meeples. This means that 16 meeples or more than half of them have been discarded and the game ends early. Player 1 and 2 both have 8 victory points and the game goes to tie-break.
